Hospitals and Other Buildings That Catch Fire

MAIN IDENTITY

Underbelly, Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2005 / National Student Drama Festival 2006 / Revived by The Brit School in 2009 – Croydon Clock Tower. Originally produced as Inform Theatre. Nominated for a Fringe First Award 2005.

Dominated by a sick child, Aimee, this is the story of a couple and their ongoing attempt to face their past and find happiness from within the industrial cityscape that engulfs them. An atmospheric and fragile portrayal of childhood innocence, violent intent and unforgiving devotion presented through a blend of new writing and physicality that blurs the line between fiction and reality.

**** ‘No escape from life’s questions. InForm Theatre push the boundaries of text and performance. … a portrait of grief showing the way sickness, death and loss can scatter the human consciousness. I kept remembering a phrase an Indian wise woman said to me earlier this year: “Human beings have become so fragile. This is not the way human beings are meant to be’. The Scotsman

**** ‘Highly recommended … Take some Radiohead-style alienation, mix it with some Douglas Coupland flights of postmodernist fancy, then present the whole shebang with the deconstructive flair of The Wooster Group playing Pirandello and you’ll start to get some idea of what’s in store’. Metro

**** ‘A show that will have you thinking long after you leave’. UK Theatre Web

****1/2 ‘Painfully sweet and nostalgic work … a modern-day fairy tale’. British Theatre Guide

**** ‘Experience this plays eerie magic for yourself’. Three Weeks

The effect it has on the audience is amazing, at times it feels as if the entire room is united in the same awkward silence. Edinburgh Guide
